Ken spent his childhood playing in the mountains of southern Mexico where his parents translated the Bible for the Chinantec speakers of that region. At age 17 he met the love of his life, Janet, who traveled the world with him for 30 plus years as pilgrims together on God’s extraordinary path.
Kids are important to the Merrifields. They have six of their own – two of whom are adopted through international adoption and foster care. Just after the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, the Merrifields lived for ten years in Romania where they worked with HIV positive children and planted churches. In 2016, Ken and Janet founded the Appalachia Mentoring Project – a mentoring program designed to help children living in the Appalachian mountains. While he continues to consult about mentoring with the Christian Association of Youth Mentors, Ken’s primary mission these days is to lead Living Grace Church into a healthy, disciple-making church.
Ken likes reading and studying. He received his MA from Dallas Theological Seminary and a D.Min. from Anderson University. He also likes auto mechanics, guitar playing, soccer, and hanging out with Janet on long walks. Probably his favorite current pastime is hanging out with his ever-growing pack of grandkids. Mostly, however, he just loves Jesus and wants others to experience this same love freely offered to all.
